Pingjiang, the Pearl of Suzhou

A very few times a designer will be asked to do work that will last for years, perhaps for a few generations.

I was asked a while back to create a logo for the Bar of Montreal 150th anniversary. Not only I had the honour to create their new identity, but also design a monument that stands now in the middle of the entry hall of Montreal’s Courthouse.

Now, the client is even more ancient. Just outside Shanghai lies a jewel, a pearl in the hear of the city of Suzhou. This district is called Pingjiang and parts of it are over 2500 years old. Monkey&Snake was asked by the Tourism Board to create a logo that will represent this wonderful area, a design that would appeal to Chinese and Western tourists.

We walked the streets looking at details and at how people live. I took many photographs and I hope I was well inspired to create a logo that will last and serve well this “Venice of the East”.
